Urgent! Please Have Your Say by 30 October 2023!
Hi Everyone! 🙂 Following the successful endorsement of the Master Plan for Point Cartwright, your input is needed one last time!
This is the final milestone of the Master Planning process for Point Cartwright. Local Law Amendments must be adopted to reflect the endorsed Master plan and your input is needed.
Please answer a couple of simple questions on Council’s Have-Your-Say survey page and show your support for the new Local Law by 30 October 2023: https://haveyoursay.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/proposed-amendments-local-laws-pt-cartwright
The new Master Plan was based on rigorous assessments by Council and its consultant specialists. To protect the unique environmental and cultural heritage values at Point Cartwright, and provide a safer more inclusive space for all users, some domestic animal controls were included in the Master Plan. Council’s extensive investigations, research and risk assessments showed that it was no longer suitable to allow free roaming dogs on the reserve. Council has adopted a range of dog management arrangements to prevent continued degradation of key habitat and cultural heritage areas, and also improve safety and amenity for all park users. Refer the Council endorsed pet management information sheet and map
New areas of environmental and cultural protection will be in place. These areas include the rocky foreshore, north facing beach, and vegetated areas and will be prohibited to pets. Pet access will remain available elsewhere in the reserve and park, with pets permitted on-leash only, at all times. To offset this change, Council will be increasing off-leash areas nearby. These pet management measures have been reflected in the proposed Local Law Reference Map for which Council is seeking public endorsement: view here.
Council’s Master Plan has been prepared to guide the future use and management for all the community to enjoy. The Master Plan represents a vision for this coastal area from now until year 2041. The outcome is a good balance between essential environmental conservation initiatives and the continuance of limited dog recreation within the reserve. The Master Plan considerations included:
– Critically Endangered Littoral Rainforest and other vegetation
– Migratory shorebirds
– Endangered Loggerhead Turtles and other protected sea turtles
– Globally Significant Nudibranch Colony
– The Beach
– Fauna
– Recreational activities
– Indigenous Cultural Heritage
